| Welcome Friend- Guthrie is located in south-central Todd County along the Kentucky - Tennessee state line. Chartered in June of 1879, we will celebrate the towns 125th anniversary in 2004. Guthrie is a railroad town , named in honor of L&N railroad president, James Guthrie. Our city is also the birthplace of America's world reknowned author and Poet Laureate, Robert Penn Warren. The gentle rolling farmland provides many opportunities for agricultural, residental, and commercial development as well as an area to enjoy a peaceful "Sunday Afternoon" drive. The award winning Logan-Todd Regional Water System plant and offices are located in Guthrie. This state of the art facility will provide water to this region for years to come. Guthrie's own utility department provides natural gas, water, and wastewater service to our community. Curbside sanitation and animal control are also available. Guthrie Police Dept. provides 24 hour police protection and is staffed by five state certified police officers, and one K-9 officer (Tan). The Guthrie Volunteer Fire Department provides fire and rescue services. Guthrie has a Mayor-Council form of government. U.S. Highways 41 and 79, and railroad lines of RJ Corman and CSX connect in Guthrie, creating excellent availability to transportation services. Quick and easy access to Interstate 24 is available via exits 1 and 4. U.S 68-80 is conveniently located in Elkton and the Pennyrile Parkway is just minutes away from Hopkinsville. Major airline service is one hour away at Nashville International Airport. The Todd County School System provides Guthrie's educational needs. Eight churches of various denominations provide for spirtual needs.
